Make it a point to go to the music store on Feb. 26 to buy Jaime Jamgochian’s new album, Above the Noise, produced by Seattle-based Centricty Records, if only for track 4. For You makes Jamgochian’s sophomore project even better than her first record, Reason to Live. Yes, it even tops Hear My Worship, which lived on the charts for nine weeks.
The fifth track on the 12-song album, Heal the Wound shows Jamgochian’s true heart. If you’ve ever wanted to go back and change your past, then you’ll relate to her sincere lyrics. The singer, who grew up in Massachusetts, says her goal is to enthuse people to surrender to the essence of worship. Her objective is easily reached thanks to this song.
The album features the energetic single Sing of Our God, which is undoubtedly one of the strongest tunes on the record, but doesn’t top For You, Heal the Wound or For Your Glory which is sure to be on the charts as soon as it’s discovered by Christian music fans.
Jamgochian, a Berklee College graduate, takes the familiar worship song, I Stand in Awe, to a new level with her potent vocals, mixed just right with acoustics and percussion. Be ready to hit the repeat button when this song comes on.
Though this album is best categorized as praise and worship or inspirational, it does provide some upbeat tunes, like God Unchanging and Amaze Me that give the CD a pop-feel at times. You Are the Story is a melody that you’ll find yourself singing along to and bobbing your head to in no time.
Jamgochian is a songwriter and a pianist as well as a singer, and although the tunes are pleasant sounding, be sure to listen with a close ear because the words she sings are honest and motivating. She became a Christian while in college and often sings about the healing she found in Christ. She’s already started her 2008 tour, which continues through 2009.
