Inhabited

by Tracy Simmons

If there’s one word to sum up Inhabited’s sophomore album, it’s fun.

The quintet’s newest record, Love, is one you’ll definitely want to dance to. They start off strong with Hush, the second song on the CD. It’s currently being aired as a single on radio. The rock song sends the strong message that sex does not equal love and speaks to the young, female audience.

Inhabited has been reaching out to adolescents and young adults since their first album debuted in 2005. The Revolution earned the group a top 10 spot in Christianity Today’s Top New Artist category.

They’ll surely get attention this time around too. Love will certainly land the group on the Christian rock charts, thanks to Sara Acker’s able voice, which sounds similar to Rebecca St. James.

Song to the Fatherless is the best song on the record. You guessed it; these lyrics are aimed at the thousands of youth who have had a parent walk out on them or struggle with other abandonment issues. Psalms 10:4 and Psalms 68:5 are the verses of inspiration behind this song.

But no album is perfect. Respect, although characterized by a distinguished musical sound, is not the album's greatest song. The intro will make you want to hit the skip button. In all honesty, only Aretha Franklin can pull off “r-e-s-p-e-c-t.”

And if you do press that button you won’t be disappointed because the next song, I Miss You, is a moving, slower song that was written after Sara and her brother Marcus Acker (guitars) mourned the death of their grandmother in 2005. Another noteworthy song on the record is Are You With Me, which has a likable hip-hop flavor.

The pop/rock grooves of this album are electrifying. The group recently signed to indie label 7 Spin Music. Love, produced by Monroe Jones, will be released on Feb. 26. You may recognize their producer's name from his work with Jackson Browne and Third Day. Inhabited will kick off spring on The Element Tour.
