Songs of Summer
GRAMMY winners DecembeRadio
By Melissa Riddle, Senior Content Strategist, GospelMusicChannel.com
Here at GospelMusicChannel.com, we’re always curious about the place where music and faith intersect – that spiritual (yet very human) connection between our heads and our hearts.
So we’re always curious to talk about music..music in all its shapes and sounds; the lyrics and rhythms that draw us out of ourselves and make us feel more alive.
Starting now and all summer long, we’re talking to artists who are Christians – of all musical stripes. The question?
What are your favorite songs of summer?
Come back every week to find out what’s on the iPods and blaring through the car stereos of your favorite gospel artists this summer. The answers just might surprise you.
This week, we talked to Josh Reedy and Eric Miker of DecembeRadio, who are presently readying their new project, Satisfied, set for an August 26th release. For more details, go to decemberadio.com.
1. "Summer of 69" from Reckless by Brian Adams
This song takes me back to when I got my first real six-string...oh what a sweet Christmas that was!
2. “Power of Love” by Huey Lewis & The News, Back To the Future soundtrack
Probably one of my favorite movies of all time, and when I heard ‘Johnny B. Good,’ I knew what I wanted to do with my life.
3. “Sky Falls Down” from Time by Third Day
This song is such a great feel-good, roll-down-the-windows-and-go type of song, as is the whole album!
4. “Jump” from 1984 by Van Halen
If you're a real guitar player, you've always listened and coveted the ability that Eddie has to create such an amazing solo. Go ahead... JUMP!
5. “Old Time Rock-n-Roll” by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, from Stranger In Town
I was a kid when I first heard this song on an episode of Alf where he had shades and was using a cucumber for a mic. It has been a fav ever since
6. “Fool In The Rain” by Led Zeppelin, from In Through the Out Door
This is one of the coolest bass/drum grooves in rock ‘n roll history. John B. and John Paul Jones had such an incredible way of creating tension within the song, making it almost elastic at times.
7. “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, from Sweet Home Alabama
If this isn't one of your favorite summertime songs or just plain favorite songs of all time, something's wrong with you.
8. “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper, from School’s Out
“School’s Out” takes me back to that feeling of leaving school and classroom responsibility for the freedom and fun of the summer.
9. “Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow, from C’mon, C’mon
I love that feeling of lying by the water or fishing and soaking up the sun.
10. “If The Bombs Fall” from Remixing This Planet by Larry Norman
This is just a cool groove and also a good feeling of knowing no matter what happens, things will still work for the good of those that love God.
