Christian Artists Nominated for AMAs, Todd Agnew Talks Theology
By Christa A. Banister, senior music editor, GospelMusicChannel.com
You may be surprised who’s up for an American Music Award this year.
While Taylor Swift is definitely the proverbial belle of the ball with six American Music Awards nominations this year, three of your favorite Christian artists have also recently secured a significant AMA nod.
While Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Third Day and MercyMe have all been nominated in the past, during this year’s fan-oriented festivities on November 22 in Los Angeles, Jeremy Camp, Brandon Heath and Mary Mary will be vying for the title of favorite artist in the “contemporary inspirational” category.
Since it’s his first nomination, Heath couldn’t help but be excited. “I’ve been watching the AMA’s for years,” Heath says. “I never thought I’d have the honor of being a nominee. I consider myself very blessed to do music for a living.”
This year for the third time, winners will be determined by online polling. To vote for your favorites, check out www.amavote.com.
Behind the Scenes With Todd Agnew
While his songs like “Grace Like Rain” and “My Jesus” have always been Christian radio favorites, Todd Agnew has always kept a decidedly lower profile with the whole “artist” part of his job.

But now the singer/songwriter and new husband and father opens up about what’s inspired his latest work, what role he feels he plays in the Christian music industry, and talks a little theology to boot.
