The Finale
Week Five: The Semi-Finals
Are we really down to the final three? I guess it's a "guy thing!" This has been such an interesting show! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I was really rooting for Amber because I know that she has so much potential and she knows this is what she wants to do...but obviously the judges see something in the guys.
How did you feel about the final three that were chosen? I think that Nevar, Robert and Tony are all amazing and they all deserve this.
I spoke with the girls before the show and they were all so excited. I know that they all were a little nervous this round because the judges were getting tougher and tougher. I must admit I am so glad that I'm not a contestant! This is tough!
What are your thoughts on the song choices? I think that Tony has demonstrated so much maturity and his ability to sing in Spanish is nothing but a plus. I think Robert has such a smooth sound and he could definitely cross into pop music. I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for Nevar to capture us...he has a true gift of praise and worship!
This week, I am really wondering who will take the title. One thing's for sure...it's a GUY thing this year! I cant wait to see how these guys pull it together for the final round!
Until then,
M
Week Four: The Fellas
First let me say thank you to everyone who watched the music video premiere last week! I was excited to get feedback about it!
Now, this week whooooaaa!!! It's guy's night and man, oh man, was the night amazing! I must admit I was sad to see some of the girls go but I was also excited to see what the men had planned. I think that Nevar, Tony and Tim have unique voices. I was also shocked by some of the song choices...I naturally like ballads and wanted more, but overall, I was blessed by the performances.
Nevar was exciting and he kept that smile on his face. It was even more surprising to hear Tony sing in both languages! That was amazing. Robert...he can really sing and he has a unique personality.
Do you think the guys are stronger than the girls? Do you think the girls voted fairly? I think the guys from tonight's show are showing a little more passion, but we still have a ways to go!
I was also surprised by some of the judges comments. Just when I thought someone was great, they thought they weren't. I'm so glad I'm not judging!
This year, the girls have got to step it up because the boys are coming with style, passion and very good talent! If you could have kept one girl and one boy on the show, who would it be? Talk to me, people, 'cause I sure know my picks!
Week Three: Girls' Night
Wow! What an amazing start to this season's Gospel Dream. We are all through with Boot Camp and auditions and it's finally here! Girls Night...I thought this was an amazing show. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what was going to happen. I can't believe that the girls were up first and the boys were there to watch and even get the chance to vote.
This was totally different than last year and it even made me think, "Would my fellow contestants have kept me on?" I don't know...but this was exciting. First up Erin...She did her thing! we rehearsed a lot and I think that she has so much originality and is going to go very far!
I was surprised by some of the song choices. Some songs seemed to be very big for some of the contestants...some pretty big shoes to fill vocally. I am glad that I had songs chosen for me that were comfortable. As for the coaches, Natalie Grant, who happens to be one of my favorites, was there to support the girls. What a treat!
What do you think about the judges’ comments to Ashli Marie? I was rooting for her because to be so young, she sounds so good. I think that if she had sung a ballad, she would have gotten a different response from them. She's very mature and very talented! I know big things are in store for her.
Rashelle Garrett happens to be my favorite of the night. I could see that she may have been nervous. But if you were to see her behind a piano, she kills it! Michelle seemed to connect with her, but not Mitch and J. Do you think she should have been selected to stay on?
I think that the boys being given the power to bring only one person back was a shocking move, but they had to choose fast and smart. Did you think they were fair, or smart, or both?
I can't wait to see what else is in store!
Week Two: Gospel Dreamers Head to Boot Camp
This week's Gospel Dream was very interesting and fun! I was there to witness some of the contestants' coaching sessions as well as some of their media sessions. I was really glad that they got the chance to hang out with Bernie and Kim to work on their music. I know that I was very nervous and I wanted to get as much help as I could when I was on Gospel Dream! I thought the Yoplait media training was a very good session. I have done a lot of interviews and done a lot speaking in front of cameras. I really needed to be prepared for that so I know that the contestants will find this training useful!
I think that Erin’s nervousness got in the way, but Tony seemed to be a natural. Hanging out with the both of them was fun and I know that they both can do it when they put their mind to it. I thought it was amazing to see how Bernie was able to really dig into each contestant and give them critiques on what they needed to improve on. That really helped! Seeing their reactions as they practiced was also inspiring to me. Ashli Marie worked really hard back stage and even rehearsed with me a couple of times. What did you think of Kim’s creative ways of coaching? I thought they were amazing. I even took some to use myself! I can’t wait to see what the contestants bring back next week. I think these coaching sessions really paid off!
Week One: Gospel Dream 2009 Begins
Wow! What a way to start this year's Gospel Dream! I am backstage and all of the behind-the-scenes action is really exciting to see. Returning to the set of Gospel Dream was sooo amazing. Just a year ago it was me in this same position! I was anxious to see all of the new contestants at the "Super Auditions" and all of the new changes the show had made! Talking backstage with a lot of the contestants I could see that they were very nervous and they really wanted to impress the judges. There were some who got really nervous and didn't get a chance to do their best… I got the chance to give some advice to some contestants and they used it! The judges are tough this year! What are your thoughts on the top ten finalists? Do you think J Moss and Mitchell were too hard or not hard enough on the contestants? I thought Tony LeBron’s voice was amazing and I think that Erin has a great sense of style and confidence! Getting down to the final ten had to be tough but I am sure these are excellent choices and this competition is far from over!!! Stay tuned for next week!
Peace,
Melinda
