The music industry has found a way to make it increasingly harder to pinpoint what a band sounds like. Applying the terms “indie” and “alternative” hardly mean a thing anymore. So how does one go about describing a band like Dear Future in a way that really defines their sound? One way would be to list their influences. In frontman and lyricist Brandon Ross you'll hear hints of timeless European bands Keane, Coldplay, and even a little Oasis. Lead guitarist Wes Chandler's guitar parts are at once lush and urgent, recalling the likes of Johnny Buckland, and the groundbreaking stylings of The Edge. The rhythm section has a knack for keeping things moving and grooving. A little John Bonum can be heard in Ethan Place's sure and steady playing, and bassist Paul Genzink holds it all together, drawing from the likes of U2, and Roy Mitchell-Cardenas of Mute Math.

As a whole, Dear Future has had years to play and grow musically together in their hometown of Pinckneyville, IL, using music as a way to “react to all the nothingness” offered by a small town. While many bands on the scene today use volume and cheap gimmicks to grab your attention, you'll find Dear Future working to earn your attention. It isn't uncommon for them to substitute loudness or antics with careful grooves or catchy, bombastic parts that easily show signs of their maturity. Don't be mistaken, though. In this fast-food generation of instant gratification, Dear Future still delivers. Their energy on stage is sincere, not forced, and therefore rare among many of the bands touring now. Dear Future strives to connect with their audience, hoping to move them to react. They remain on the front lines of no-nonsense rock music, and show no signs of stopping.

In 2006 the band self-released The Emergency EP to wide acclaim. Strong, successful tours kept the band busy for the next year, sending them to Colorado, New York, Texas and everywhere in between. After their first promising release, which sold out in less than a year, the band has worked hard to put together their latest collection of songs: another self-released EP entitled Can't Wait Any Longer. “We are definitely more excited about these new songs,” explains Ross. “We didn't waste time in the studio, but before that we really took our time with the writing process. It had to be better than our last release, we were determined! So we had more songs to choose from this time around, and had plenty of time to explore parts of our sound that we hadn't touched...You are sure to hear some new things from us!” Can't Wait Any Longer is scheduled to release in September 2008.
